About Richard
N. Richard Werthamer is retired from a successful career as a scientist and executive. Most recently he was the Executive Officer of The American Physical Society (APS), the world's leading membership organization for the physical sciences. In prior positions he planned and managed research and development for such corporations as AT&T, ExxonMobil and Becton Dickinson. Previously he was the first recipient of an APS Congressional Fellowship, and then served as Chairman and CEO of the New York State Energy R&D Authority. He began his career as a theoretical physicist with Bell Laboratories, where he was internationally known for his studies of the properties of solids and liquids at low temperatures.
He is a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard College and earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
